The Balos lagoon is located in the northwest of Crete, at Cape Gramvousa, near the town of Kissamos or Kastelli in the prefecture of Chania.

The surreal beauty of this beach enchants anyone who visits it.

The mixture of glowing white and pink sand and the incredible lively turquoise waters of the lagoon have brought it to one of the most beautiful beaches in the world.

It is located in the southwestern part of the prefecture of Chania, near Kissamos, 55 km from the city of Chania and 17 km from Kissamos.

It has a shallow sandy beach, the sea is warm with intense turquoise water and amazing color in the sand which in many places, as in Elafonisi, has a wonderful pink color that has given it the countless broken shells.

If you do not like crowds, it is preferable not to visit it in July and August, because this period is actually flooded by a crowd of visitors who come to admire the marvelous beach.

The easiest access to Balos is with a boat that you can take from Kissamos and other parts of the prefecture that make daily excursions.

Even if you want to go by your own means of transport, you have to know that a large part of the road is a bad dirt road and the last kilometer you have to cover it on foot. Of course if you prefer this way you will be compensated by the wonderful natural landscape during the journey.

Finally, the most difficult and more impressive is the three-hour hiking trail from Kalyviani.
